Cosmetic vessel, finished on one side, with a loop for suspension applied at the back. Small bottles of this type are undoubtedly connected with the cult of Dionysus (Greek god of fertility, wine) and were probably used for unguents and produced in Hellenistic and Roman times in Egypt. Occasionally, the rim is shaped like the head of the god of wine or of Isis. A mould for a vessel of this type from the 3rd century BC was found at Tell-Atrib.
