Faience vessel with the body slightly flaring upwards with everted rim. Similar specimens were found in the foundation deposit in the temple of Mut in Tanis (Egyptian goddess of justice), rebuilt during the reign of Ptolemy IV (222 – 205 BC). They are found as early as the 30th Dynasty under the pharaoh Nectanebo I. The form of these vessels is probably derived from similar vessels bearing Pharaonic cartouches (hieroglyphic inscription of the ruler’s name placed in an oval frame), placed in the tombs of pharaohs and their officials.
