PREHISTORY AND MIDDLE AGES OF LESSER POLAND

PREHISTORY AND MIDDLE AGES OF LESSER POLAND

permanent exhibition

A new version of the exhibition about the prehistory of Lesser Poland

The current exhibition is a modernized version of its predecessor. Therefore, its title was basically retained and exhibition elements were used (figures, models, reconstructions, etc.). The arrangement is different, also qualitatively, enriched with modern visualizations. The principle adopted is that they should support the visitor and not replace exhibits and reconstructions. A new feature are widely available audio guides with guided tours of the exhibition for individual or family visitors in Polish and for foreigners (English and German language versions).

The exhibition takes into account the needs of people with disabilities.

The most important thing, however, is the continuation of the substantive idea from the previous exhibition – presenting the most important moments in the development of the region. The following dates and generally associated “entries” were selected:

70,000 BC (Neanderthal man),
26,000 BC (Homo sapiens as a mammoth hunter),
5300 BC (last hunters and first farmers),
700 BC (in the times of cremation – Bronze Age culture),
250 BC (Celts in the region),
160 AD (barbarians of the period of Roman influence),
1000 AD (on the threshold of Christianity),
1300 AD (in Cracow).

We hope that our audience will accept the new presentation of the prehistory and Middle Ages of the region and will continue to visit the exhibition in large numbers. We made changes with her in mind.

The mission of the Museum is:

We are a depository of the activities of pre- and proto-historical societies in the area of Małopolska and we act as an intermediary between ancient communities and modern man.

We hope that thanks to modern narration, this mediation will be more beneficial both for the viewer and for the archaeological heritage itself.

The exhibition is open from April 2, 2024
