Mission

“Archaeological heritage of Małopolska region. We are a depositary of activities of the pre- and protohistoric communities in Małopolska region, Poland, and we are an intermediary between the past communities and the contemporary man.
Archaeological heritage is interconnected elements of material, spiritual and social culture. Therefore, the museum not only collects material remains of human activities (movable archaeological objects – basic source of information), but also information about immovable objects (caves, settlements, burial mounds), cultural space and natural environment in which the activity took place.

The mission is realised through obtaining, preparing, cataloguing, preserving and storing museum collections and information about them.We act as a mediator between prehistory and the present day through cultural, educational and academic activities (exhibitions, shows, conferences, lectures, academic research and publications). We also want to shape a right-thinking and active public attitude towards archaeological heritage.
